Discover the fascinating history of Konopiště Castle, founded in the late 13th century as a French-style Gothic fortress with massive walls, a moat, and seven defensive towers. Over the centuries, the castle underwent significant transformations, evolving from a medieval stronghold into a Renaissance palace, making it a more comfortable residence.

The castle's most famous owner, Archduke Franz Ferdinand d'Este, purchased Konopiště in 1887 using the wealth he inherited from the House of Este. He commissioned renowned Czech architect Josef Mocker to renovate and modernize the castle, adding electricity and even one of the first elevators in the Czech lands.
